If you are given the clear bandage - You can still shower, work out, and wear the same clothes you usually would while the bandage is on (no swimming, baths, saunas, etc.). Be careful not to scrub the bandage or get soaps etc. inside the protective layer - if the bandage becomes contaminated, remove immediately. If any red bumps appear, remove the bandage immediately. There will most likely be fluid (blood, ink, plasma) built up inside the bandage. Its gross, but totally normal. If it fills up too much and begins to leak outside the bandage, remove when possible.
If you are given the black bandage - Keep it clean and dry, do not remove and reapply any bandaging.
If you are given the clear bandage - Remove after about 5 days (remove on a day when you can keep it clean and dry throughout the day) Slowly pull the film off. I recommend removing it in the shower. Do not pull it straight up away from the skin. Instead, pull the film back and across the skin while holding your skin taut. Be gentle. Once bandage is off, rinse the tattoo using your hand and a mild unscented soap. Do not scrub with a towel (use the towel to pat it dry instead)
If you are given the black bandage - Remove as instructed at the appointment. Once bandage is off, rinse the tattoo using your hand and a mild unscented soap. Do not scrub with a towel (use the towel to pat it dry instead). Do not replace the bandage once it is off.
Keep your tattoo clean and dry for the next 3 weeks. You will also want to avoid direct sun on the tattoo. Do not pick or scratch tattoo while it is peeling/itchy. Do not swim, take a bath, or enter a hot tub or sauna for one month or until the tattoo is completely healed. Do not apply Vaseline (petroleum jelly), alcohol, healing ointments (polysporin) or sun block to a fresh tattoo. You may use a thin layer of an unscented, water-based lotion about once a day. The lotion should be a thin layer that absorbs quickly. Too much lotion will cause your new tattoo to scab excessively, and not allow it to breathe. Once the tattoo is healed, please be diligent using sunscreen to keep your tattoo beautiful for life!
**Everyone has different aftercare preferences. Once you leave my shop, how your tattoo heals is ultimately in your hands. Take care of it as best as you can, and don't blindly follow any aftercare that you are uncomfortable with or think is wrong. Please check your sources if you follow an alternative aftercare to make sure the advice comes from qualified individuals. If you want to reach out with any questions, clarification, or concerns please do not hesitate to do so! I want your tattoos to stay looking their best ♥
Unless you are flying/driving in from out of town, I almost never send artwork ahead of time. If you arrive at your appointment and your artwork does not look the way you'd envisioned, you aren't going to be pressured into getting a tattoo you don't love! We will have a little chat, find out what the problem areas are, and redraw the piece together right then and there. Ideally, we will still do the tattoo that day during your session, but if the redraw takes too long and we do not have enough time in the session then we will book you a new appointment. You are not charged for any of this. There are so many reasons I do it this way, but for anyone who feels this is inconvenient I can let you know that if we needed to redraw your tattoo then I would need you to come in person anyway so it doesn't add any inconvenience.
I do not start a drawing until a deposit is paid - this deposit is non-refundable once the drawing has been started. The deposit you leave for your tattoo is only for the tattoo discussed in the consultation. If you ask for one thing and change your mind to something else, I cannot guarantee it will be something we can do. If you are accurate and thorough, it avoids disappointment on your end and frustration on mine. We both want your tattoo to turn out awesome! If you aren't sure on some aspects, feel free to ask and we can bounce opinions back and forth. You are not just paying for my tattoo, but also for my experience and artistic eye - the pressure doesn't all have to be on you.
If you're getting a floral sleeve or a floral tattoo that is shaped to your body, there is a good chance we will be free handing at least a portion of the tattoo. This is the most organic way to make these pieces come together and be totally unique, and also allows for a lot of communication during the stencil process. You are not charged for stencil time, only for the time it takes to complete the tattoo itself.
I don't want any unnecessary uncertainty when it comes time for payment. For many reasons, I don't generally charge hourly anymore. For most tattoos, I will give you a flat rate price after we have discussed the design and before we book you in! If I'm not sure about a few elements, you may be given a price range instead of a single price - when that happens, I will confirm the final price with you once we have the stencil sorted and BEFORE the tattoo actually begins! I really do my best to make sure we are on the same page and everyone is comfortable with the pricing before we begin. I do my best to commit to honest prices, so that I am being paid a fair wage and you are getting a fair price for the work.
For sleeves, half sleeves, back pieces, etc. I have a full day rate for larger pieces of $1400/day. I work quite quickly. Oftentimes this will be enough to finish work like a half-sleeve, but for sleeves and even larger work we may need a follow up session. If a long session is needed, we will book another full day. If we only have a couple hours left, you will be charged hourly at $250 an hour. Freehand florals/foliage, etc. is also charged at $250 an hour.
Please keep in mind that the flat rate I give you does not include the applicable taxes relative to the province you are being tattooed in! (GST/HST). f you are being tattooed in Edmonton only the shop has a $30 supply fee per session. If your tattoo ends up being much larger than discussed, if you decide to add other elements or add color last minute, etc, then the price may change (generally speaking size changes within an inch or 1.5 inches are fine, and little changes are acceptable)
For example - You asked for a tattoo of a rabbit with a daisy at 5 inches. When you arrive, you actually want it to be 6 inches, and you'd like me to add a couple leaves. No problem, your flat rate will not be affected. But, if you come in and you would like it to be more like 7 inches tall and you'd also like to add some daffodils which had not been discussed in the email consult, this will most likely affect your price. Again, I only want to charge a fair price, so I am definitely willing to make changes so that the tattoo is what you envisioned within reason.
I will always disclose price changes before the tattoo begins. I honestly hate changing prices last minute, so it happens super rarely, and only when I am completely surprised by the changes or size difference. The best ways to avoid having the price change on you is to make sure your measurements are accurate, and to make sure you communicate clearly what you would like done. Feel free to send as many mock-ups and sketches/images as you need.
I’ll get back to you as soon as I can, but please give me a day or two to respond! If you are emailing during peak booking times, please allow a little longer.
